Systems biology is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on complex interactions in biological systems in order to improve the design of molecular and cell-based technologies. Instead of studying one biological component at a time, systems biologists integrate and analyze complex data from multiple experimental sources using innovative mathematical approaches. In the CIG, our SB research is led by Eberhard Voit (metabolic modeling), Peng Qiu (single-cell networks), Melissa Kemp (T-cell signaling), May Wang (medical informatics) and Manu Platt (tissue remodeling).

CIG Research Interest:
Peng is a computational systems theorist. His group in BME has developed SPADE software for determining cellular hierarchies from transcriptome data and is engaged with a variety of machine learning and statistical signal processing approaches.

CIG Research Interest:
Eberhard directs the laboratory for biological systems analysis in BME. He uses mathematical and computational methods to optimize, predict and manipulate biological systems.

May’s group merges medical informatics and bioinformatics. She has interests from big omic data quality control to imaging informatics and analysis of electronic medical data.
